Reposted from @honestlyholistic Tension headaches are really uncomfortable and painful, and when you already suffer with anxiety you can quickly start to worry that something serious must be wrong. I used to fixate on every tiny physical sensation, so when I experienced random shooting pains in my head, pressure and tightness I used to think I had a brain tumour or was having an aneurysm quite honestly. Just writing this is something I couldn’t have done during my worst health anxiety. Tension headaches often start in the neck from chronically tight muscles and then end up as a tension headache. Anxiety causes our muscles to naturally tense up as a defense mechanism against a perceived threat, but of course it can be confusing when you are in no danger. You may be tensing all your muscles right now without even realizing it. Go on, relax those shoulders, do a few neck circles, relax your jaw. Consciously unclenching your muscles throughout the day is really important. I love applying magnesium gel to especially tight, sore areas and giving myself a little mini massage. I also love taking a magnesium glycinate supplement, it helps to relax tight muscles, calm an anxious mind, helps you to sleep better and boosts your mood. Find an article I wrote on it in my resources section in my bio.
