Reposted from @honestlyholistic Social anxiety is something I struggled with especially during my childhood years and teens.⁣ ⁣ I was always just seen as the “shy, quiet” girl but I was very confident around people I felt comfortable with. ⁣ ⁣ Making conversation with a stranger or someone I didn’t know well always made me really uncomfortable. I was sometimes able to hide it pretty well on the outside but inside I had all these sensations happening. ⁣ ⁣ Being called on in class to answer a question or doing a presentation was always a complete nightmare for me. ⁣ ⁣ In fact, in my early twenties I was accepted for a position at a call centre and the training was going okay until we were told we had to do a group presentation at the next training session, and I ended up quitting so I wouldn’t have to do it (true story! 😬) I really needed the job at the time but my fear took over. ⁣ ⁣ It’s hard for someone to understand social anxiety unless they go through it themselves, if we could let someone just feel our discomfort for just a moment then they may better understand. ⁣ ⁣ I highly recommend considering talking to a trained therapist if social anxiety is taking over your life. (See a great resource in my bio)⁣ ⁣ Your diet and lifestyle plays a major role too, your nutrition has a massive impact on your mental health and the severity of mental and physical anxiety symptoms, I proved this to myself when I made changes (if you’d like to read my personal story then find the links for my book in my bio)⁣ ⁣ It’s also important to start to challenge those thoughts that come up. We often have an uncomfortable thought pop in and then our brain runs away with it, turning it into all kinds of stories that are simply not true. ⁣ ⁣ For example, we may be hyper focused on how we are being perceived, believing that we are definitely being judged not realizing that most people are thinking the exact same thing. ⁣ ⁣ Do you struggle with social anxiety? ⁣ ⁣ 💌 Free newsletter: honestlyholistic.com/newsletter⁣ ⁣ 📚 Book: honestlyholistic.com/book⁣ ⁣ 📱 join my text community!
