PLEASE AS A NURSE IM BEGGING YOU ALL PLEASE
PLEASE ITS FUCKING IMPORTANT
I’m an ID fellow and I endorse this 100%
This!!!!! So important!!!!!
I got my first STI check at 15, and had one every year from then. Just do it as part of your annual blood work, it’s not hard!
I would recommend every 6 month for anyone whose had more than 1 sexual partner over a years time. Get them every 3-6 months if your polyam like I am.

The state of sex education in this country is so bad that I don’t think people realize just how easy and cheap these screenings are, and how important they are. Best $40 you ever spent, if you can get it done at a PP clinic.
It’s not painful or difficult, if I remember right last time it was three very small pinpricks or maybe two small pinpricks and an oral swab.
15 minutes later they told me with high confidence I was HIV-, two days later they told me with almost absolute certainty that I was negative for chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis.
There’s a brief questionnaire that they’re required to give you about whether a sexual assault is the reason you’re getting tested. It’s always preferable to answer truthfully, but I’m sure they would rather you get tested whether you tell the truth or not.
And PP clinics will absolutely gender you however you request and use whatever name and pronouns you specify in their documents, except where they legally have to use the name on your ID.
For a person who was extremely worried about the process being difficult and extremely worried about being positive for one of these diseases, it was an extremely painless and fast process and I would absolutely encourage anyone who’s sexually active to make use of it. In fact, I think it’s like the public library thing of where, the more people that use it, the more funding they’ll be able to allocate for it.
And not knowing doesn’t help you at all. Knowing might be scary but it will absolutely save your life. All four of the diseases that the standard screening tests for can be fatal, but also all four of them can be totally treated, either to the point of not having the infection anymore or to the point of not having any symptoms or being able to transmit it.
